The Elements of Communication: Federal Territory Day

Like how the few previous post mention about the communication process, there are 8 different types of element resides in it.

1. Sender
2. Encoding
3. Channel of the Message
4. Noise
5. Decode
6.Receiver
7. Respond
8. Feedback

On another note, always feel free to browse back the previous posts to understand more about the elements.

In this case of Federal Territorial (FT) Day Celebration, it was more on mass audience. Definitely the key point for the whole event is getting the message across effectively to the mass audience.

Which is why, "Channel of the message" plays the most important role in this situation.

It's all about synchronization.

By applying the communication process theory, we can determine the elements according to the situation. Let's take the mass audience situation.

If the event organizer would like to announce there is an event going at a specific time and place, the following will happen.

1. Sender : Organizer/ Master of Ceremony.
2. Encoding: The Message
3. Channel of The message: Broadcast Equipment i.e. The Microphone, the amplifier.
4. Noise: Audience, microphone interruption.
5. Receiver: Audience.
6. Decode: Audience.
7. Respond: Audience movement, marching band coming in.
8. Feedback: Audience's applause.

Federal Territorial Day Communication Theory: Mass Audience Situation

Reason: Element Determination.

Sender is the organizer because he is the first to initiate the message to the receiver.
Whereby, the channel is the microphone and the amplifier because that is the medium used to get beyond the audience.

The noises are the audience themselves and the high interruption frequency of the microphone and amplifier. Everything that will affect the original meaning of the message can be consider as noise.

The receiver is the audience because they receive and decode the sender's message.

Feedback is the applause of the audience after the show to signify response for the sender.

Hope you guys understand the communication theory even more.

Thank you.

The Elements of Communication

Image 1.1 is the typical communication process.

There are 8 elements in the communication process.

1. Sender/Source
2. Encode
3. Channel of Message
4. Noise
5. Decode
6. Receiver
7. Response
8. Feedback

The Sender

The Sender is the source of the message. In other words, he/she is the first party to initiate the message to the receiver.

For example,

This is a situation where a girl greets her grandma, "Gong Xi Fa Cai."
The usual stuff you see in Chinese New Year.

The Communication Process kicks in, making the girl a sender in the communication process while of course the grandma is the receiver.

Encoding

Encoding is how the sender determine to structure the message and send it to the receiver.

This is an inverted Chinese Symbol, Happiness (Fook)

Why is it inverted? Because Inverted (dou) represents "arrived."

Conclusion, if it was inverted it means " Happiness Arrived, " which like the above. Encoding also include non-verbal signs such as high-five, waving and shaking hands.

Channel of the Message

The sender can choose to send his/her message via written, oral, through the radio, telephone and many more.

You can choose to send E-cards to your long distant, techno-savvy relatives that live in overseas.

Noise

Error: Failed to send. One of the most annoying noises.

Noise resides in the channel of the message. Interference occurs regularly in the communication process. It could be a corrupted email, the poor signal on the phone or the loud background sound.

Anything that disrupts the original content of the message is called noise. If the noise level is high, the message might not be receive at all.

Receiver

A receiver is the one who received the sender's message. In order to understand the sender's message, the receiver will need to decode, the message's content.

Decode

Decode is a process where the receiver decipher the content send by the receiver. If the message went through minimal noise, it will be easy to understand. However, if the message went through a lot of interference, it might also interfere the decoding process.

Response

Response is the reaction from the receiver after getting the message. For example, if the grandma understand the girl's message, she will provide a response by perhaps giving her an angpow or just greeting her back.

Feedback

Feedback is the final link in the chain of the communication process. After receiving a message, the receiver responds in some way and signals that response to the sender.

Feed back is important because it loops back to the sender's thought. If there are no feedback provided. The sender will do not know what is the best way to send the message for getting a proper response.

Celebrating Chinese New Year the Malaysian Way

Ask me what I personally like best about the Lunar New Year (or what more commonly known as the Chinese New Year) and I shall tell you that I enjoy the Reunion Dinner on the eve of Chinese New Year the best. The reason? Well, it seems to be the only time of the year when members of the family are gathered over the dining table with a wide variety of delectable cuisines served.

          Arrica and the family

What mattered the most, somehow, was not the food (although food was indeed what brought everyone together), but instead the bonds between family members that only grew stronger over the dinner filled with conversations and lots of laughter. And that makes the Reunion Dinner especially remarkable in welcoming the arrival of a brand new year.

          Aaron and the family

Sherilyn and the family

Besides that, the Chinese New Year also seemed to be the only time of the year when members of the family actually get to reunite and enjoy more of each others' company, thus I believe that it should also be known as a celebration of togetherness, where gatherings and house-visits among relatives, friends or even colleagues would be ubiquitous. Collection of ang pows or red packets (filled with money... and blessings) is also an all-time favorite. ;)

 Ang Pow Packets

Eden and friends

Aaron and... lots of girlfriends?

Chinese New Year cookies (it's about food yet again) were also hunted weeks in advance before the arrival of the festivity as they are the essential goods that you simply cannot do without during house-visits, either to serve your guests with the cookies or to exchange them as gifts. Something worth noting is such that one could become protective over their own favorite cookies deemed as nothing but the best, while yours truly too has her personal favorite when it comes to something as important as pineapple tarts. :)

Error 101: No picture found. Pineapple tarts went missing in action.

Last but not least no festivity would be festivity when there are no fireworks. Despite being contraband items, fireworks still ignite brilliantly in the skies all around your neighborhood, smelling like charred barbecue meat. It is somehow undeniable that fireworks add sparks to the festivity and noises are just something that we would not want to do without. So, watching the fireworks would also be a must when it comes to the celebration of Chinese New Year.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Sincerely,

The Bragging Brats
